Teverga concentrates four visits that justify the trip: the Prehistory Park, the Collegiate Church of San Pedro, the Cueva Huerta natural monument and the start of the Senda del Oso in Entrago.
Three of them lie within 7 km of San Martín de Teverga, the municipality's capital, so a weekend covers everything without absurd early starts.
If you come with the bike in mind, the key fact is that the municipality is km 0 of the greenway: the 22 km to Tuñón start in Entrago. What works best is combining pedals in the morning and heritage in the afternoon.
Prehistory Park
It sits at km 2 of the greenway from Entrago, so you can arrive on foot or by bike without touching the car.
- Its centrepiece is the Cave of Caves, a gallery bringing together full-size replicas of three sets of Palaeolithic art: the main panel of Tito Bustillo, panel 4 of the Salón Negro at Niaux (France) and the inner chamber of La Peña de Candamo.
- The copies are made with natural pigments and reproduce the cracks, the humidity and the darkness of the original caves, most of which are closed to the public.
- The ticket is valid all day, the park closes in January and opening hours change by season: buy in advance on the Turismo Asturias ticket website.
Collegiate Church of San Pedro
Next to San Martín de Teverga stands the oldest Romanesque church in Asturias, dated between 1036 and 1076.
- It is a rarity with double value: it documents the transition from Asturian pre-Romanesque to Romanesque, with a rectangular plan, three naves and a squared east end reminiscent of San Salvador de Valdediós.
- The original monastery already existed in the year 860, and in 1149 it became a collegiate church of canons under the bishopric of Oviedo.
- Inside are the so-called mummies of Teverga, two mummified bodies that are its most talked-about attraction.
Cueva Huerta
It lies 6.5 km from San Martín de Teverga on the AS-228 towards the Ventana pass, next to the village of Fresnedo.
- It is a natural monument and the second-longest cave system in Asturias, with 14.5 km of galleries inside the Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Natural Park, a biosphere reserve.
- It can only be visited with a guide, in two formats: a walkway tour of about 50 minutes, suitable for almost any visitor, and a caving trip of 2 to 3 hours following the course of the river.
- The cave shelters a protected colony of bats, so the guides set the access conditions.
Km 0 of the Senda del Oso
Entrago is the starting point of the greenway: 22 km to Tuñón on the trackbed of the mining railway that ran from 1884 to 1963, with an average gradient of 1.5%, a compacted gravel surface and zero cars.
- The classic plan is the 18 km from Entrago to Buyera on a gentle descent, 2-3 hours with stops; you have the detail in the Entrago-Caranga section guide.
- At km 19 waits the bear enclosure, home to Molina, the only bear in the compound.
- The outdoor viewpoint is free and the chance of seeing her is around 70%, best from 9 to 11 am and 5 to 7 pm; visits are managed from the Bear House of Proaza.
- If you don't bring a bike, you can rent one in Entrago for €28 a day (€50 for the e-bike), with helmet, insurance and the return transfer from Buyera included; all the rates are on the prices page.
An order that works: bike from Entrago to Buyera leaving at 10 am, Molina the bear before midday, lunch in San Martín de Teverga and the collegiate church or the Prehistory Park in the afternoon. It all fits in a single day.
Where to eat in Teverga
The reference is Casa Laureano, on Calle Doctor García Miranda in San Martín de Teverga, an eating house open since 1902. Its menu is Asturian without frills: pote tevergano, fabada, roast kid goat and game stews such as venison or wild boar.
The dining room seats around 170, so it absorbs the groups coming down from the greenway well, although on summer weekends it is wise to book. Opening hours and the up-to-date menu are published by the restaurant itself; be wary of prices floating around third-party websites.

How to get there
From Oviedo it is 40 km and about 45 minutes: A-63 to exit 9 (Trubia) and the AS-228 up the valley. From Gijón allow 70 km (1 hour) and from León, 85 km (1 hour and a quarter) via the AP-66 and the Ventana pass.

You can also arrive without a car, with three real options:
- Bus: the Oviedo-San Martín de Teverga line, around 55 minutes, with stops in Tuñón, Proaza, Caranga and Entrago. Seasonal timetables are published by the Asturias Transport Consortium.
- Train: the nearest station is Trubia, 25 km from Entrago; from there, bus or taxi.
- Bike from Oviedo: 34 km (2.5-3 hours) via the Parque de Invierno, the Fuso greenway and the Nora corridor.
If you come by car, Entrago has around 60 free spaces, but in July, August and on long weekends they fill up before 10 am; there are alternatives in Tuñón (around 40) and Proaza (around 20). It is all broken down in the parking and getting there guides.
